12-18 August | Belgium - The Netherlands
Team Jumbo Visma’s Laurens De Plus celebrated his first professional win at the Binck Bank Tour on Sunday. The 23-year-old Belgian started the 7th and final stage 12 seconds down on race leader Tim Wellens (Lotto Soudal) but after attacking on the final circuit of the Muur of Geraardsbergen he crossed the finish line 38 seconds ahead of his fellow Belgian to clinch the overall win. De Plus finished the stage in third place, four seconds down on his breakaway partners, stage winner Oliver Naesen (AG2R La Mondiale) and Greg Van Avermaet (CCC Team). Naesen’s victory saw him move up to second in the overall classification. Wellens finishes Binck Bank Tour in third place, one second behind Naesen.

Germany headed the final medals table (5 gold and 4 silver) at the UCI Junior Track Cycling World Championships. New Zealand, which started the championships conservatively, finished in fine style to move up to second in the medals table (3 gold and 1 silver). The Antipodeans were followed by Greece, who claimed two golds thanks to Konstantinos Livanos’ victories in the keirin and the individual sprint. But probably the most impressive were the three medals – one of each colour – won by India, who finished 9th in the medals table amongst more traditional cycling countries.
15 August | Waregem, Belgium
Titouan Perrin-Ganier successfully defended his rainbow jersey, clinching the men’s UCI Mountain Bike Eliminator World Championships for the third consecutive year, in front of fellow Frenchman and European Champion Hugo Briatta. The women’s competition saw a first-time winner in Italy’s Gaia Tormena, who finished ahead of two French athletes, Isaure Medde and 2018 UCI World Champion Coline Clauzure.
18 August | Valkenswaard, The Netherlands
Just three days after the UCI Mountain Bike Eliminator World Championships, the athletes were back in action for the fourth round of the discipline’s UCI World Cup. Newly-crowned UCI World Champion Titouan Perrin-Ganier had to make do with second after a nail-biting battle in the final with Germany’s Simon Gegenheimer, whose victory sees him move up to 4th in the overall rankings. Sweden’s Ella Holmegård dominated the women’s competition as fastest qualifier then taking the final ahead of Clara Brehm (Germany) and Dutch rider Didi de Vries. The two UCI World Cup leaders remain unchanged: World Championships silver medalist Hugo Briatta (eighth in Valdenswaard) and newly-crowned women’s UCI World Champion Gaia Tormena (11th in the fourth round).

Trek Segafredo broke Boels Dolman CyclingTeam’s winning streak at the Swedish team time trial, taking a clear victory over the slightly damp 35.6km course. Audrey Cordon-Ragot, Elisa Longo Borghini, Ellen van Dijk, Tayler Wiles, Ruth Winder, and Trixi Worrack registered the fastest time at every intermediate check, finishing in 43:53. They had a healthy winning margin of 25 seconds over their closest rivals, 2018 UCI World Champions Canyon SRAM Racing. Winners in 2016, 2017 and 2018, Boels Dolmans CyclingTeam had to make do with fourth behind third-placed Team Sunweb (3rd).
