The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) is pleased to announce the publication today of its inaugural medal table by country encompassing all the UCI World Championships held in the past year. A similar table has been published for the UCI Para-cycling World Championships (track and road).
These new rankings, which will be updated after each UCI World Championships, will serve to highlight the collective performances of the National Federations affiliated with the UCI across all disciplines.
This initiative is part of the UCI's long-term goal, expressed in its Agenda 2022, to establish a UCI National Federations World Ranking calculated on the basis of all the events listed on the UCI International Calendar.
UCI President David Lappartient said: “The UCI’s National Federations are doing an outstanding job of developing cycling in its various forms and enabling their top athletes to excel at the highest level. With the rankings published today, we want to recognise the commitment of our Federations and foster sporting competition between them.
The aforementioned UCI National Federations World Ranking, which will be the next step in this process, will undoubtedly generate huge interest among the many cycling fans who enjoy multiple disciplines.
"I would like to congratulate the Netherlands, Germany and France - the top three nations in the medals table for our different cycling UCI World Championships -, as well China, Australia and Great Britain, which are at the top of the table for our para-cycling UCI World Championships."
The UCI manages and promotes cycling’s eight disciplines: road, track, mountain bike, BMX Racing, BMX Freestyle, cyclo-cross, trials and indoor cycling.
